Are you a candidate for Lasik eye surgery?
In general, the ideal candidate for Lasik eye surgery is over eighteen years of age and has healthy corneas. Candidates must not have had a significant increase in their prescription in the last twelve months. People with certain medical conditions, or women who are pregnant may not be good candidates for Lasik eye surgery. If you have questions, we offer no charge laser surgery consultations, where you can speak with Dr. Lockhart, find out if you are a good candidate for laser surgery and have your questions answered openly and honestly. |
How Lasik Works
The cornea is reshaped under a protective flap.
Nearsightedness
Nearsightedness is corrected by flattening the cornea, removing tissue from the center of the cornea.
Farsightedness
Farsightedness is corrected by making the center of the cornea steeper. The laser removes tissue from the outside edges of the cornea.
Astigmatism
To correct astigmatism, the cornea is made more spherical. By changing the pattern of the beam, more tissue is removed in one direction than the other.
